There’s no ‘I’ in team, but there are two in Kim and Tim.  Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett is changing the name of his Komen Race for the Cure team from “Team Burchett” to “Team Kim & Tim” in honor of his friend and Star 102.1 radio personality Kim Hansard.  Hansard was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and made the diagnosis public on the air Wednesday.

Team Kim & Tim is also a joint effort in partnership with Independent Insurance Consultants and Komen Knoxville, which helped coordinate the team.  Several early registration events were held at all five of Knox County’s senior centers.  IIC also sponsored the original “Team Burchett” t-shirts, which are still available in limited quantities to team registrants while supplies last.

“Kim has been a friend of mine for a long time, and she’s always ready to help support good things in the community,” said Mayor Burchett. “Now is the time for the community to rally around her and to support breast cancer awareness and research at the same time.”

Anyone can sign up for Team Kim & Tim by visiting http://www.teamkimandtim.comRegistration is open until midnight Thursdaynight (tonight). Mayor Burchett proclaimed the week of Oct. 14 – 18 Breast Cancer Awareness Week in Knox County. All Team Kim & Tim participants will receive an official Komen t-shirt and race bib. More information about Knox County Senior Services can be found at http://www.knoxcounty.org/seniors.
