NON-PROFIT WUTK-FM IS FIRST PARTNER

A very popular locally owned restaurant, The Tomato Head, is kicking off its first-ever charitable giving campaign for non-profits during the month of February.  Dubbed Loving Spoonful, this month’s non-profit is WUTK-FM 90.3 The Rock, the award winning student radio station that acts as a lab for UT students, mainly from the College of Communication and Information’s School of Journalism and Electronic Media.  WUTK receives no financial support from the College or School, and is self-supporting, depending on underwriting donations, listener donations, and fund raisers to keep the station operating.

The last three Tuesdays in February, Tomato Head will host Loving Spoonful events that will generate money for WUTK by offering special items for sale, and portions of those proceeds from these items and/or events will go directly to WUTK.  “Sandwich Day” is February 11 at both locations for lunch and dinner, and Riverplains Farm will partnr for this event. The “Meatball Grinder” as the featured sandwich, with $3 from each one sold going to WUTK.  “Pint Night” is February 18 at both locations.  WUTK will receive $1 from each pint sold from the Blue Pants Brewery keg of Big & Tall Belgian Red Ale, as well as any pint sold in the new bar area of the Market Square store or the bar area of the Gallery location.  The Gallery location will host a four course Beer Dinner February 25, sponsored by Blue Pants Brewery, with $10 from each ticket sold going to WUTK.  Only forty tickets are for sale, and reservations can be made by calling 865-584-1075.

When asked why she chose WUTK as the first non-profit to benefit from Loving Spoonful, Mahasti Vafaie, Tomato Head founder replied: “We have been supporting WUOT and WDVX for years, but have never supported WUTK.   The prospect of losing WUTK seemed like a real possibility, so I wanted to make sure we did everything in our power to help keep it on the air.”
