Gospel and opera join hand-in-hand to celebrate music at Knoxville’s local churches

Knoxville Opera is excited to invite the community to rejoice in spectacular musical performances celebrating opera and gospel! Presented by Home Federal Bank, Knoxville Opera Goes to Church is a two-performance series, bringing together the Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir and cast members of the upcoming Mefistofele in celebration of gospel, spirituals and opera. With only two exclusive concerts, lovers of opera and gospel will not want to miss these performances on Sept. 26 at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, and Oct. 17 at the Community Church at Tellico Village.

“We are the only opera company in the world that has its own gospel choir, and we are proud to present our eclectic repertoire featuring outstanding local and visiting guest artists,” said Jeannie Turner Melton who will conduct the 40-voice choir. “Our performances are an inspiration both to our performers and our very enthusiastic audience. We always make sure to give them something to cheer about!”

Knoxville Opera Goes to Church…A Celebration of Talent is one of Knoxville Opera’s 75 yearly education and outreach activities. Knox Opera is strongly committed to enriching the lives of those in East Tennessee with the magic of opera through special events and once-in-a-lifetime performances.
