Beginning in August, the Knox County Stormwater Management Department will being stream mapping within the White’s Creek watershed. The project is expected to be complete by December 2016. The White’s Creek watershed is located northeast of First Creek between Beaver Creek and Roseberry Creek to the northeast and Loves Creek to the south.

To facilitate this program, Knox County staff may need to access residential property during daytime business hours to identify streams using GPS equipment. Staff will not enter into any building or structures on the property; it is specifically for the purpose of identifying streams or their tributary watercourses throughout Knox County. No construction will take place. Representatives of Knox County will be mapping these streams with GPS units and/or making visual assessments of the watercourse.

The goal is to protect and rehabilitate our natural water resources by creating a geographical information system stream map and database to identify locations of the waters of the state.

Knox County is mandated by the Environmental Protections Agency and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, under the Phase II Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System permit, to monitor certain streams or tributaries to those streams.

All mapping locations are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Those with questions or concerns can call the Knox County Stormwater Management Department at (865) 215-5540 or visit www.knoxcounty.org/stormwater for more information.
