The Secret City Half Marathon & 5K (SCHM) has grown into one of the largest athletic events in the region. A field of an estimated 1000 participants will run and/or walk their way to the
finish line when the event celebrates its eighth anniversary on Saturday, November 19, 2016.

“Last year was the first year for our new half marathon and 5K courses and the response was very positive,” says Lisa Kendall, race director for the half marathon and 5K races and Event Sales Manager for Explore Oak Ridge. “We have seen a huge surge in new registrations this year and a great many of last year’s participants are returning,” says Kendall.

The half marathon starts at 9:00am with the 5K race starting 15 minutes later. Both races start and finish on the Melton Lake peninsula. The half marathon course includes Union Valley Road; home to the Rogers Group who has been the presenting sponsor of the SCHM for the last two years. “We are thrilled with the Rogers Group continued accommodation and support of the event. Their private road is safe for participants and scenic as well,” says Kendall.
The SCHM has many sponsors returning this year including silver sponsor Methodist Medical Center and bronze sponsor TN Members 1st Federal Credit Union. New this year as a bronze sponsor is Secret City Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Visit www.SecretCityHalfMarathon.com for a complete list of all of the greatly appreciated sponsors.
This year, the nonprofit, Girls Inc, receives a portion of the race proceeds in addition to all the donations made to this worthy organization. The Girls Inc. mission is to support girls of today and help them to become confident women of tomorrow. The SCHM has partnered with Girls Inc. for the past two years. Additionally, various local high school organizations are being supported in their fundraising efforts as well.
