CTE goes Live on May 4, 2018

Knox County Schools presents CTE goes Live, a music competition for 15 high schools in the county, from 7-9 p.m. on May 4 at Market Square in downtown Knoxville. Each school will select a student to sing at the event. With all this passionate talent, it’s sure to be a fantastic night!

This event isn’t focused on just singing, it provides a hands-on learning opportunity for many students. High school Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes from all over the county work together to produce it. Advertising & Public Relations classes handle social media and marketing campaigns, students in coding classes create a website about the event, TV/radio classes produce live radio and television commercials as well as PSAs, students in graphic design classes create posters and flyers, photography students work with pictures and record videos, students in criminal justice classes shadow and learn from the Knoxville Police Department on security duty and cosmetology students prepare the contestants before the show.

Returning to the stage this year are previous winners Jaycob Johnson from Austin-East, Lauran Wright from Powell and Madalyn Hickey from Career Magnet Academy. The 2017 winner, Farragut High School graduate Braden Thayer, will open the show performing the song he recorded in Nashville last year.

CTE goes Live is fortunate to have many sponsors. The presenting sponsors are Toyota Knoxville and Lexus of Knoxville. Staging, sound and lighting are sponsored by Stellar Vision & Sound. M&M Production is sponsoring the production. Facebook Live Voting is being sponsored by Holston Gases. The Green Room is sponsored by McGaha Electric. CTE goes Live would not be possible this without these sponsors.

This is the eighth year of the event and Emily Ann Roberts’ spark to the stars was her victory on the show. The winning prize is a trip to Nashville to record one song in a professional studio for the radio.

Performers will head to the B&B Salon at 6 p.m. The competition will be televised from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. live on WKNX this year. CTE goes Live is a fantastic event inspiring and entertaining everyone.  Parking is free downtown after 6 p.m. on Friday.
