Gibbon Trails and Langur Landing voted one of 10 best animal exhibits in U.S.

Travel experts nominated their favorite animal exhibits in North American for 10Best Readers’ Choice Award.

Zoo Knoxville’s Gibbon Trails and Langur Landing have been voted one of the top 10 animal exhibits in the country by USA TODAY 10Best Reader’s Choice travel awards.

Gibbon Trails and Langur Landing, a $6 million multi-acre habitat for white-handed gibbons and silvered leaf langurs, officially opened on March 2.  Part of the Boyd Family Asian Trek, Gibbon Trails and Langur Landing immerses zoo guests in a 360 degree aerial experience in a rainforest tree canopy.  The habitats are designed with multiple viewing levels that allow the primates to pass directly over the heads of visitors or be eye-to-eye with them in a 60-foot-tall treehouse accessible by a suspension bridge.  The new expansion also allows soaring views of Tiger Forest and incorporates a new outdoor training demonstration area for Malayan tigers.

Gibbon Trails is home to one of the zoo’s most beloved ambassadors, Georgie.  Langur Landing is home to Walter, Teagan, Melody and Opie, a family of silvered leaf langurs that are a new species to Zoo Knoxville.

“It was an honor to be nominated and we are thrilled our public considers these habitats among the most dynamic in the country for both animals and guests,” said President and CEO Lisa New.  “We have been focused on evolving from a great zoo for a ‘city of our size’ to being recognized as a great zoo, period.  We are thankful our community supports that vision.”
