A gathering to learn about the state of Cuban-American relations will take place on Monday, June 25, 6 p.m. at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, 2931 Kingston Pike.

A potluck supper will begin at 6 p.m., and acclaimed photographer and frequent visitor to Cuba, Mr. Bill Hackwell, will speak at 6:45 p.m.

Mr. Hackwell will speak about the work of IFCO Pastors for Peace, a New York-based organization which is planning its 29th “friendship caravan to Cuba” this July.

IFCO’s caravans, organized annually since 1992, visit Cuba without US government permission and in defiance of our country’s blockade of Cuba, which the organization seeks to stop.

Mr. Hackwell, from Oakland, California, is a social documentarian who has produced photographic work in Vietnam, Mexico, Italy, and in Cuba, where he has taken more than 10,000 photos of the island and its people.

He has documented the lives of migratory farm workers in Colorado, and accompanied former Attorney General Ramsey Clark in 1996 to Iraq on a fact-finding mission after the US imposed economic sanctions on that country.
