UT McClung Museum to Host Veterans Day Bus Tour

The public is invited to join the McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for a special Veterans Day themed bus tour entitled History in Brass and Stone: Remembering Knoxville’s Military Heritage on Sunday, November 11 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The bus tour will be led by McClung Museum Civil War Curator, Joan Markel, and will observe how the ‘Volunteer’ legacy of military sacrifice is memorialized in obscure locations all around Knoxville.

“Since the creation of the state of Tennessee, our volunteers have fought in all of the many wars that dominate United States history,” Markel says.

Tour tickets are $45 for museum members and $60 for non-members (non-member price includes a one-year membership to McClung Museum and a portion of your ticket is tax deductible). Each ticket includes a hard cider or beer compliments of Cherokee Distributing Co. (for our guests over 21), a keepsake McClung koozie, water, soft pretzels from Holly’s Eventful Dining, and the two hour tour. A portion of each ticket is tax deductible and supports the McClung Museum’s free education outreach programs.

Reserve your ticket online at alumni.utk.edu/veteransdaytour or call 865-974-2144 for assistance.

The tour departs from the Three Rivers Rambler train depot promptly at 2:00 p.m. All attendees should plan to arrive by 1:45 pm.

The McClung Museum is located at 1327 Circle Park Drive. Museum admission is free, and the museum’s hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Free two-hour museum parking passes are available from the parking kiosk at the entrance to Circle Park Drive during the week. Free parking is available on the weekends. Free public transportation to the museum is available via the Knoxville Trolley Vol Line.
