StatCare Pulmonary Consultants, a leader in the treatment and care of Pulmonary Disease in East Tennessee, is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Walk to benefit research with the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. It is the mission of StatCare Pulmonary Consultants to bring hope and support to those suffering from Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a condition that causes lung tissue to become thickened, stiff, and scarred. The lungs eventually lose their ability to transfer oxygen into the bloodstream, making everyday activities such as breathing and walking extremely difficult. It is a progressive disease, which means it tends to worsen over time. Every individual diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis has a unique experience with the disease and there is no “standard” or expected clinical course.  With no known cure, the disease is often fatal within three to five years of diagnosis. In the United States, PF affects more than 200,000 people.

“We are excited to once again bring this event to Knoxville to raise community awareness of Pulmonary Fibrosis,” stated Holly Byrd, NP, PF Event Chairperson for StatCare.  “Our goal is to work with those diagnosed with PF to understand the disease on their own terms and how best to approach treatment options.  Education as well as providing support experiences are really important as we take this journey with our patients.”

StatCare dedicates time and resources to our patients with PF to explore the most current treatment options available.  Because of the work of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF), there is hope for those living with PF.  It is important for the Knoxville community to better understand this crucial research by increasing awareness, providing individual support venues for the PF community, and sustain vital programs that help people with PF and their families live better lives.

On April 27th, 2019, StatCare Pulmonary Consultants will kick off the 2nd Annual Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Walk.  StatCare’s very own walking team, aptly named, Heavy Breathers, will be participating in the 0.9-mile walk.  Participation in the walk is free.  Registration begins at 9 a.m.  The PF walk begins at 10 am.  Bring your family and friends for a fun time to bring awareness to our community of this rare disease.

The Awareness Walk will be located at:  Fort Sanders West Campus, 280 Fort Sanders West Blvd. Knoxville, TN 37922.  The walk will be around the parameter of the Fort Sanders West Campus.  It will be on the paved side walk of the complex for the ease of our participants.
