Celebrate America Recycles Day is this Saturday, October 26th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Krutch Park on Gay Street, near Market Square.  Not only will the event feature kids activities, a medication drop off and mercury thermometer exchange, but also resources about sustainability in Knoxville.  America Recycles Day (ARD) will also be hosting an art show featuring local artists and their interpretation of the importance of recycling and sustainability.  Keep Knoxville Beautiful, TDOT, Knox County Solid Waste, and the City of Knoxville invite you to join them for a great morning that promises to answer all your questions about recycling in Knoxville,

As many Knoxville residents may remember, ARD has taken place in the parking lot of West Town Mall during November.  This year, thanks to a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the event will be in Krutch Park during the Market Square Farmer’s Market. Krutch Park allows Knoxville residents, those participating in the race for the cure event, and those who are visiting the Market Square Farmers’ Market to easily stop by during their Saturday morning activities in downtown Knoxville.  The America Recycles Art Show promises to compliment the natural beauty of Krutch Park and highlight the versatility of the trash we throw away, featuring Sarah Brobst, Christal Yost, Renee Holiday, Dave Mann, and students from Knox County Schools.

Keep Knoxville Beautiful will even have an art piece in honor of October being breast cancer awareness month.  Not only will their booth have crafts for kids, but it will also have a giant ribbon made from empty two-liter soda bottles that were donated by Coca-Cola. Goodwill will be securely accepting your important documents that will then be shredded and recycled, and the Knoxville Police Department in conjunction with the UT Pharmacy School will properly dispose of your expired medications and your mercury thermometers.  Other exhibitors include Visionary Solutions, the Water Quality Forum, Fort Loudon Lake Association, Knoxville Recycling Coalition, Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union, Knox County Stormwater, and Waste Connections.

America Recycles Day guarantees to demonstrate how your trash actually benefits the City of Knoxville and Knox County, and how you can improve your community by responsibly disposing of your garbage.  For more information, contact Allison Teeters at allison@keepknoxvillebeautiful.org.
