The City of Knoxville, is open for business today…on a federal holiday. I asked the City of Knoxville, Mayor’s Press Communication Liason Public Information Officer, Jesse Mayshark, if he could provide more information. I specifically asked him who made the final call for recognizing holidays.

I also spoke with a couple of council members who said its never really been an issue, and they’ve never really heard feedback either way.

Mr. Mayshark immediately called the city law department and gave the Knoxville Focus, the following response. “City holidays are in the code of ordinances, so could only be changed with Council approval.”
