KNOXVILLE FORCE DROP SEASON OPENER TO NASHVILLE FC

Starting off in the pouring rain Saturday evening at Regal Soccer Stadium, the Knoxville Force welcomed the newly-chartered Nashville Football Club to its National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) 2014 season home opener. The Force, under the direction of new head coach Paulo Neto, fielded a fresh team with players from a host of countries playing in colleges and universities across the Southeast.

Pedro Lima scored the Force’s first goal at 14:10 into the game. Nashville’s Asmir Pervin scored their first goal at 26:14, while Brandon Whitsett scored their second goal at 29:30, and Nick Romero scored a third goal at 32:30, making the halftime score 3-1, Nashville FC.

Weather cleared for the second half and being down two goals, the Force favored an attacking style of play to try and make up the difference. Although the team had some good chances throughout the second half to score, ultimately the aggressive offense-minded style of play led to a breakdown in defense in 90th minute of play resulting in a goal.

The final score was 4 -1 in favor of Nashville FC.

“It certainly is a very disappointing start,” Neto said. “We played well for the first 15 minutes but couldn’t maintain the high tempo. I don’t think the result reflects the way we played, though.

“We controlled the possession and outshot Nashville. All credit to them for scoring literally every time they shot on goal. We have a lot of work to do. Our fans and this organization deserve better. I’m positive we will be an improved team when we return home.”

The Knoxville Force play away the next two weeks, returning for a double-header with the Lady Force on May 31. The Lady Force will take on the newly formed Chattanooga Football Club women’s team at 5:00 pm and the Force will host the Chattanooga Football Club men’s team at 7:30 pm.
