County closes 2019 book drive with wing eating contest

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs may have lost the wing eating contest but Knox County came out the big winner.

On Monday night at Wild Wing Cafe in Turkey Creek, the Read City USA “Reading Gives You Wings Book Drive Celebration” (and Hot Wing Eating Contest) took flight. Spirits soared when it was announced that thousands of new books had been collected.

Read City USA is a county-wide literacy program to encourage a passion for reading. In 2019 the goal for reading was 250,000 hours. In 2020, the goal is 500,000 hours or to “read around the world.”

County readers can log their hours on the Bean Stack Tracker app; you’ll just need your Knox County library card to create an account and then you can take off!
