According to PBA’s Dale Smith, problems with the school security systems at Hardin Valley Academy and Powell Middle School were first identified in 2008.
Thomas Deakins requested a fresh audit on school security systems at today’s BOE meeting. “As a parent of 4 children in our system, I want to make sure our systems are working,” Deakins stated. According to Simplex-Grinnell, a comprehensive audit of all Knox County Schools, was conducted over the summer, and took three months to complete.
“We are going to hire an outside attorney, Ruth Ellis, to investigate this matter. She has on at least one occasion in the past worked with Knox County Schools in the past. ” Dr. Jim McIntyre
Due to the fact that 3 piers must be rebuilt, the bridge, which was originally scheduled to re-open later his summer, will remain closed until February 2014. Rebuilding the piers will add an estimated $6 million dollars to the $24.7 million dollar price tag.

Long time Republican activist and community leader, Ruthie Kuhlman, will now chair the Knox County GOP. Kuhlman defeated both John Gabriel and Buddy Burkhart for the position. Buddy Burkhart will serve as first vice-chair.

The Knox County Republican party will install new leadership this morning. Among those vying for the chair position are Ruthie Kuhlman, Buddy Burkhart, and John Gabriel.
