Superintendent Bob Thomas reported several achievements to the school board Monday, November 27. He congratulated Dr. Keith Wilson for being appointed Interim Director of Professional Development.

 

Ms. Janie Black was recognized for being chosen for The Governor’s Academy for School Leadership which is a unique partnership between the Tennessee Governor’s Office, Department of Education, Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, and local school districts. It consists of a cohort of 20-25 assistant principals from across Tennessee who participate in a one-year leadership development experience aimed at increasing school leadership capacity and supporting individual growth toward becoming a highly effective building principal. This program runs from January 2018 until December 2018.

 

Principal of Hardin Valley Elementary, Dr. Sunny Poe, was mentioned for being chosen as one of the Knoxville Business Journal’s 40 under 40 Program which is an awards ceremony on January 18, 2018 for Young Leaders Making a Difference.

 

On November 16, 2017, Ms.  Paula Franklin a teacher at West High School was awarded the Milken Educator Award which carries a $25,000 cash prize.

Superintendent Thomas also reported on a successful Principal for a Day that took place on November 14, 2017. At most schools, there were two Principals for a Day placed at each school followed by a luncheon and a round-table discussion at the Sarah Simpson Center.
