Wesley Neighbors Community Association plans to celebrate police and community relationships by holding their National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.
All neighbors are welcome to join a fun evening of food, friends, and fellowship at the cul-de-sac at the end of Hastings Ln. For more, contact Anne Crais at anneccrais@gmail.com.
National Night Out (NNO) is a nationwide event encouraging neighborhood connectivity, neighbor and police relationships, and communitywide safety. Nationally, NNO is held the first Tuesday in August. However, due to the summer heat, Knoxville celebrates NNO on the first Tuesday in October (this year, Oct. 1), giving Knoxville neighborhoods the option to celebrate on either date.
This year, the Office of Neighborhoods and KPD are hosting a National Night Out Neighborhood Challenge! Winners will be chosen in three categories:
-Most Interesting Theme: Take a photo that shows the theme in its glory.
-Most People: Take a photo and give a count.
-Most Creative Activity: Take a photo of the activity in action with a description.
Let us know when and how your neighborhood plans to celebrate NNO; we can provide NNO yard signs, and KPD will let area officers know when to attend your event. Be sure to take and share pictures of your event! We will judge based on photos; make sure to have a designated photographer! Winners will receive a special trophy.
If you have an outstanding neighborhood liaison officer, give them a special thank you by nominating them for the Officer Liaison of the Year!
For more information on the National Night Out Challenge, to register your event, nominate an officer, and get your yard signs, contact Eden Slater at eslater@knoxvilletn.gov or call 215-3232.
