Public invited to pick the flicks for the 16th year of Movies on Market Square
Movies on Market Square’s line-up belongs to the people. The public is invited to cast their votes for their favorite flicks beginning on Aug. 12 at www.knoxlib.org/movies or at any Knox County Public Library location. Ballots are also available at Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union branches in the area. The last day of voting will be Aug. 23 and the winners will be announced on Aug. 29.
Knox County Public Library has hosted Movies on Market Square since 2004. On six consecutive Friday nights starting on Sept. 13, moviegoers will bring blankets and lawn chairs out for a night under the stars in front of the silver screen. The movies are family favorites, rated from G to PG-13. Categories were chosen by title sponsor Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union and include the Final Frontier, Family Fun, 1985 Throwbacks, Random Reels, Heroes and Sheroes, and Spooks and Spirits.
The Library hosts the popular outdoor movie series to highlight its extensive collection of music and movies with more than 34,000 titles available for check out. The Library recently added Hoopla to its collection. Hoopla allows library card holders to stream and download thousands of movies, TV shows, music albums, and graphic novels. Hoopla works with most smartphones, tablets, and computers as well as Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Fire TV. Other streaming services include Kanopy and Music Online.
