The Wreaths Across America Mobile Educational Exhibit will be on display at The Pinnacle at Turkey Creek in the parking lot in front of Calhoun’s Restaurant on Saturday, September 14th and Sunday, September 15th from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. each day.
The Wreaths Across America Mobile Educational Exhibit is a 48’ trailer equipped with a 24-person screening room that showcases the different aspects of the Wreaths Across America mission through video. There are also interactive computers on board. Its purpose is to not only Teach the next generation about Service and Sacrifice, but to share stories of patriotism and love of country. The mission statement of Wreaths Across America is “Remember, Honor, and Teach.”
Wreaths Across America is a nation-wide program to place an evergreen wreath on the headstones in veterans cemeteries in mid-December prior to Christmas each year. It is a grass-roots effort that has no state or federal funding. The Knoxville area has three such veterans cemeteries with over 17,000 veterans interred.
At 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, a generous supporter of Wreaths Across America will be making a very significant contribution of $5,000 for the Knoxville effort (a large for-show check will be presented). Janet Guess, a Wreath Program Ambassador of the Knoxville effort, will be accepting the gift. Congressman Tim Burchett, a long-time supporter of Knoxville’s Wreaths Across America program, will be attending the presentation.
