I made a gaffe in last week’s article titled “Good Books”. The very first book I wrote about, “The Fall of Crazy House,” wasn’t a good book at all, but I wanted to mention it because it was written by one of my favorite authors, James Patterson. I wanted to mention him because he’s such a prolific writer and I usually enjoy all of his books. As I’ve also mentioned, some people will like it, but I just couldn’t get into it.

One of the worst things in the world–no, let me rephrase that, it is the worst thing in the world, is fire. So many acres have been burned in 2019, and the latest one was in beautiful Australia. Thank God, it was fairly controlled by the time the Australian Tennis tournament began. There were two or three tennis courts closed, however, many people had to wear masks outside to keep from breathing the sooty air. Even when matches were played inside, some players could hardly breathe. Roger Federer was one of them. Thankfully, the second week of the tournament was much better.

On January 4th of this new year, iguanas fell from trees in Florida because it was so cold. The thought made me shiver. Turtles and iguanas fell to the ground and appeared dead, but they might not be. They climb up trees to roost at night. When the temps fall down, they literally shut down and can no longer hold on to the trees, so they fall. I have read that an iguana can be tamed and will lay back to be petted. Ugh! Who would want to pet an iguana? I’ll take a cat any day. I didn’t know about the turtles and I never heard of iguanas until I saw the movie years ago, “The Day of the Iguana” with Ava Gardner and Richard Burton. Well, to each his own, I guess.

Thought for the day: In the depths of winter. I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer!  Albert Camus.
