Teacher Appreciation Week was celebrated earlier this month and the South Woodlawn Neighborhood Association decided to cook up something special. Debbie Sharp, Knoxville’s Neighborhood Coordinator, told The Focus what happened.

The association’s School Outreach Committee adopted the teacher assistants at Dogwood Elementary.

Debbie’s mom, Dianne, cooked up batches of cookies. Debbie packaged the goodies, Janine Al-Aseer printed notes to attach to the cookies and Janine and Kara Strouse took them to school as the teacher assistants were returning to the school to retrieve their belongings.

The school was closed, as all schools were, because of the pandemic. The cookies were just the neighborhood’s way of saying “We Appreciate You.”
