Streaming Virtually On YouTube this year

Circle Modern Dance continues its annual holiday tradition of Modern Dance Primitive Light, a Winter Solstice celebration of the arts December 17-20, this year being streamed virtually on Circle Modern Dance’s YouTube channel. This year’s show is a compilation of pieces collected from the last 29 years of performing at the Historic Laurel Theater.

Modern Dance Primitive Light features performance art by local choreographers, dancers, and musicians. Each performance has showcased live music performed by local musicians. This year, the group has made a new virtual piece using video submissions from dancers that have participated in years past featuring new music by Greg Horne. This year there are some new video art as well. Featured choreography includes pieces from Circle Modern Dance’s original founders, Mark Lamb, Claire Barrett and Kimberly Matibag. Also included from previous years are works from Dr. Mary Alford, Amelia Breed, Debbie Whelan and Joy Davis.

“Getting to see Primitive Light pieces from the first few years of Circle Modern Dance’s tradition has got to be one of the most exciting parts of this year’s performance,” says Jessie, co-director of this year’s show. “I enjoyed honoring the people who started this company and seeing how Circle has evolved. Editing and putting the show together has been a truly wonderful experience. We hope that you all enjoy watching this experience as much as we have enjoyed creating it”

Performance will begin streaming Thursday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. through Sunday, December 20 at midnight. Please visit www.circlemoderndance.com to Pre-Register for a streaming link and day of show email reminder.
