401 West Summit Hill Dr, Knoxville, TN 37902
Tuesday, Aug 17 2021 at 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. EDT
Come be a part of the living history of Woman Suffrage. During the cocktail hour (5:30-6:30) mix and mingle with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul, and other important suffragists. Take advantage of photo ops with Susan B. Anthony, Lizzie Crozier French, Frankie Pierce, Febb Burn and other change-makers.
Come ready to bid on beautiful and fun silent auction items—all to support the ongoing efforts of the Suffrage Coalition to locate and preserve the history of Woman Suffrage, especially Tennessee history.
As a special treat we will have a showing of the beautiful suffrage artwork, sculpture, fiber art and much more by the talented Mary Ruden.
Enjoy a dinner prepared with an eye to the recipes of the suffragists as presented in the cookbooks they sold to raise funds for the cause.
Travel back to August 13, 1920, and listen in as the Tennessee Senate debates the hotly controversial motion to ratify the Nineteenth Amendment. Hear the harsh and cruel diatribe of Senator Candler (portrayed by Dennis Francis), whose words inspired Febb Burn to write the famous letter that persuaded her son to switch his vote and make Tennessee the Perfect 36. Hear the words of the Senators who defended suffrage (portrayed by Marshall Stair).
Get a sneak preview of some of the songs for the new musical “A Vote of Her Own” which will premiere in 2022.
