Damar Hamlin, No. 3
By Ralphine Major
The scene was telling—football players and coaches gathered on the field kneeling in prayer. Unfortunately, serious injuries are a part of the football culture. The injury that Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin suffered during a recent Monday night football game was more than serious. It was a life and death moment. The news was flooded with reports of the incident on the field when Hamlin’s heart stopped, making a win or loss seem so insignificant. There will likely be debates on what caused the cardiac scare. Focus immediately shifted from football to life. Without hesitation, I heard numerous telecasts requesting prayer for the player whose life was hanging in the balance.
The latest reports are that Hamlin was released from the hospital. Great news! It was also reported that all the players on all the teams in games last Sunday stood for the national anthem. There may be debates about the power of prayer in Hamlin’s recovery. Our country is blessed to have highly trained professionals in the medical field and top-notch technology which certainly played a crucial part in Hamlin’s survival. But the image of two teams kneeling on the football field is seared in my mind. Any prayer warrior will attest that the power of prayer is undeniable. May No. 3 be blessed with continued good health.
