Veterans buried in the Mars Hill Cemetery will be honored in a special ceremony as part of the Daughters of the American Revolution America 250! Anniversary. The veterans buried there took part in conflicts from the American Revolution to the Philippine-American War.
The “Honor Our Tennessee Patriots” event is set for April 8 at 10 a.m. The Knoxville DAR Chapter applied for and was awarded a 250! Celebration Grant for the event. The historic cemetery also holds the graves of the Cavett family, massacred at Cavett Station by Cherokee Chief Doublehead, and is recognized as a Veterans Heritage Site. The event will is also supported by the West High School NJROTC Color Guard and co-sponsored by the Friends of Cavett Station.
Eight new military markers will be dedicated at the ceremony and a program about those veterans is part of the event.
Those planning to attend are urged to park along Doublehead Lane and are asked not to block the mailboxes and driveways belonging to residents of the neighborhood.
