The 2022-23 high school girls basketball season is now in the rear-view mirror.
It was a campaign full of exciting games and stellar performances. And several local players were acknowledged for their accomplishments by their district’s respective coaches as they were awarded all-district honors.
In District 3-3A: Seymour won both the regular-season title and postseason tournament championship.
Lady Eagles’ coach Greg Hernandez was voted Coach of the Year by his peers. Seymour’s Jaden Cummings was named Player of the Year.
She was joined on the first team by teammates Bailey McCoy and Kaylen Schultz. The other local first-team selection was Gibbs High’s Brenna Taylor.
Brielle Turner (Seymour), Jaden Parker (Gibbs), Dakota Large (Gibbs) and Marah Yeo (Carter) received second-team honors.
In District 5-3A: Fulton’s Maiya Moore was named Player of the Year. She was joined on the all-district team by Reese Goddard (South-Doyle), Damoni Kpana (South-Doyle), Judy Taylor (Fulton), Dee Williams (Fulton), Rickia Watkins (Austin-East) and Maichala Stevenson (Austin-East).
In District 3-4A Karns High School’s Lauren Trent was named Coach of the Year in her first season at the helm for the Lady Beavers. She guided Karns to a second-place finish in the district standings and a runner-up finish in the district tournament.
The Lady Beavers had Rylee Roberts, Reese Roberts and Lauren Martin received all-league honors.
Central had three all-district selections in Scout Horner, Cadence Horner and Avery Brewer.
Powell’s Adisyn Smith, Reese Rolen and Alaina Schroeder were named to the squad along with West High’s Kayleigh Newman.
In District 4-4A: Farragut’s Jason Mayfield was named Coach of the Year, while Bearden’s Avery Treadwell claimed Player of the Year honors.
She was joined on the team by Natalya Hodge (Bearden); Rachel Wilhoit (Bearden), Amanda Parker (Bearden), Lindsay Wilson (Bearden), Kyndra West (Hardin Valley Academy), Lexi Hall (Hardin Valley Academy), Annie Priest (Farragut), K.J. McNealy (Farragut) and Maelyn McNealy (Farragut).
In Division II-A District 1: Christian Academy of Knoxville’s Abby Williams was named Coach of the Year while the Lady Warriors’ Kiera Leffew was Player of the Year.
Other all-league team selections were: Emily Wilson (CAK), Madi Jones (CAK), Izzy Proffitt (CAK), Juleigh Anne Tucker (The King’s Academy), Brady Branam (TKA), L.J. McDaniel (Grace Christian Academy), Raleigh Jack Walker (Concord Christian School) and Emery Fisher (Berean Christian School).
