Preschool Program Little History Lessons is back at the Museum of East Tennessee HistoryWhen: Where: East Tennessee History Center, 601 S. Gay Street, Knoxville, TN 37902 (Knoxville, Tennessee) – In March 2023, the East Tennessee Historical Society (ETHS) launched Little History Lessons, an educational program designed for preschool children and their caregivers. Prior to this, ETHS had not offered regular programming for this age group. After a successful first year, Little History Lessons will continue in 2024. Children attending Little History Lessons explore history topics inspired by objects from the permanent and temporary galleries, such as transportation, farming, or state symbols. Lessons begin with a story time and discussion about the week’s theme before moving into the gallery to see historical objects related to the topic. The lesson is concluded by a game or a craft that reinforces the topic in History Headquarters. Children are welcome to play freely in History Headquarters before and after the program. Dani Manley Hood, ETHS’s Education Program Manager, says, “I’m so glad to be offering a program for this age group. Museums can be scary places for both children and parents, and I’m excited to be able to provide a program that welcomes little kids and allows them to explore the gallery and learn about history while also learning how to engage with public history institutions.” For a list of dates and topics of future Little History Lessons, visit https://easttnhistory.org/ |
