Nathan Irwin Named New COO at Tennova Healthcare North Knoxville Medical Center
Tennova Healthcare North Knoxville Medical Center has named Nathan Irwin as its new Chief Operating Officer effective June 17, 2024. Nathan is a Tennessee native and an accomplished leader with a track record of building operational excellence by emphasizing culture, attention to detail, and commitment to the community.
“We have been purposeful in our search for the COO role. With our focus on growth in physician recruitment and the opening of our new tower in March, it was important for us to put in place a leader that was up for the challenge to keep this momentum moving forward. We are pleased to welcome Nathan and his experience to the Tennova North Knoxville Medical Center family,” states Bill Rich, Chief Executive Officer, Tennova North Knoxville Medical Center.
Nathan is familiar with Tennova as he currently serves as Chief Operating Officer at our sister facility Tennova Healthcare – Cleveland. During his time at Cleveland, Nathan focused on volume growth and oversaw many critical initiatives that impacted overall patient care through process improvement, engagement and satisfaction. Nathan oversaw and led project teams for capital deployment including renovating the behavioral health campus, cafeteria renovations and implementing new technology. Under his leadership, Tennova Healthcare – Cleveland saw an increase in patient transfers from outlying community hospitals.
Prior to his role in Cleveland, he was with HCA at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center where he has served as COO. While serving there, he led teams focused on improvements in patient throughput as well as launching a new Freestanding Emergency Room.

Nathan received his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and his Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Houston at Clear Lake. Nathan, his wife Ashley, and their young daughter are in the process of relocating and will make great additions to our Tennova Healthcare family. “I am impressed with the growth in the Powell community, which is something I had been looking for.
