Empower Sevier Initiative: Supporting Families in Crisis

~ from Salvation Army of Sevier and Cocke Counties

The Salvation Army of Sevier and Cocke Counties is proud to launch Empower Sevier, a new community initiative designed to provide direct support to local families in crisis. Building on the success of the Angel Tree program, Empower Sevier offers individuals, families, and businesses the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Empower Sevier introduces “tags” available at key locations, including Kings Family Library and Walmart, starting today. Each tag represents a unique need, from providing a computer for education to buying food, supporting long-term housing, or making monthly donations. Community members are invited to pick up a tag and fulfill specific needs, creating a personal connection to those they help.

Blair, who does social service work at The Salvation Army, explains, “We want people to feel a personal connection to Sevier County, whether they live here or are just visiting. Now, anyone can empower vulnerable families and individuals by making a profound impact.”

The initiative aims to foster safety, stability, and hope for those in need, reinforcing the community’s commitment to supporting its most vulnerable members. Tags are available for adoption until September 5th, and can also be adopted online anytime. Plans are underway to relaunch the program in the spring for continued support.

The Salvation Army of Sevier and Cocke Counties provides a wide range of services, including disaster assistance, eviction prevention, case management, youth programming, and Christmas assistance. Our holistic approach to case management follows a three-phase model:

  • Phase 1: Housing and employment stability.
  • Phase 2: Education and improved housing conditions.
  • Phase 3: Planning for a sustainable future.
