American Revolutions
DEI is DOA
Greg Gutfield
After my pseudo scientific poll predicting President Trump’s victory (November 4, 2024), I am officially retiring from my pseudo career as a pollster. There will be no taunting like football players or braggadocio, just relief that President Trump was reelected. However, I suspect a lot of traditional, JFK Democrats are also silently relieved.
And yet the election continues after almost two weeks because so-called “election officials” in states like Arizona and California apparently have trouble with 123s and ABCs. Neither Florida, Tennessee or France have trouble running elections or counting votes. Actually, Tennessee was again recognized as having the best and most secure election system in the country. Trump plans to decentralize government agencies like Homeland Security and move them to the border. Perhaps the Department of Education should be moved to counties and states who can’t count.
I am a stickler for definitions, and any post-election analysis must define terms. Once, the perspectives of traditional Democrats and Republicans were similar. Both stood for national borders and legal immigration, strong national defense, capitalism, and Constitutional rule of law with equal opportunity rather than mandated equity of outcomes, and both stood for law and order. Republicans once believed the best way to protect the people and achieve prosperity was through smaller government, less regulation and lower taxes. However, in recent decades many Washington Republicans have become more like their counterparts in the Democrat Party who favor bigger government, more regulation and higher taxes.
The recent election was a landslide for President Trump and Republicans. Americans had finally had enough of the disastrous Democrat policies. But there are even larger seismic shifts.
The Republican GOP (Grand Ole Party), once the party of Abraham Lincoln, is now the MAGA party of Donald Trump who espouses conservative values of individual freedom, religious tolerance, and even “the right to be left alone” (Don Surber). The American people rejected open borders, mismanagement of the economy and being ruled by unelected Washington deep state bureaucrats. Unfortunately, many Republicans lost their way in Washington and succumbed to the siren’s song of ever bigger and more powerful government. Some remain in the GOP, but their power is waning.
The autopsy of the Democrat Party’s defeat continues, but after all the finger-pointing is done, the radicals will be purged because it was the policies of progressives, democratic socialists and leftists in the Democrat Party that led to sweeping defeat.
The modern Democrat party is not the party of JFK or even FDR. It has been taken over by AOC Progressives who espouse the utopian living wage, universal (government) healthcare, income redistribution, BIG government, no limits on abortion, and LGBT+ activism, including biological men in women’s sports and locker rooms as well as sex changes for children with gender dysphoria. Americans were especially repelled by the latter.
Admittedly, I am opposed to progressive policies, but the policies of leftist and Democrat socialists are far worse. Leftists hate America, are anti-capitalist, want open borders, are woke and espouse neo-Marxist class and racial warfare in everything. Think NeoMarxist Antifa and BLM, and the rants of MSNBC’s Joy Reid.
In their pursuit of power, rather than what was best for the country, the old guard, like Pelosi and Schumer, thought they could use and control the young radicals. They were wrong. To appeal to sane American voters, the Democrats must purge radical leftists and progressive policies, abandon the ridiculous CRT (critical race theory) and DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) must die.
There are other losers in this American Revolution. The alphabet, legacy media (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, NYT, Wash. Post, etc.) were shown to be liars and were the actual purveyors of misinformation and disinformation which they accused others of doing. MSNBC has lost 50% viewership which translates to billions of dollars of lost advertising revenue. Chris Wallace is leaving CNN and others will lose their jobs.
And on it goes. Democrats trotted out celebrities to stump for Kamala. Oprah’s production company was paid a million dollars for a town hall with Kamala. Beyoncé and others were paid unknown amounts for their endorsements/performances. Kamala’s campaign raised a billion dollars and ended up 20 million dollars in debt. What amazes me is why anyone would be so vacuous to follow the recommendation of an actor. I might admire the artistry of portraying a character, but I would not be confused by an actor’s facade of reality.
The political revolution in America is obvious. But there is also a technological revolution driven by AI (artificial intelligence). Some years ago, it became possible to manipulate visual imagery to the point that courts began to question what is true or admissible. Now, AI is pushing the envelope of reality even further. I have not used AI to produce my essays, but a professor friend of mine is challenged to police his graduate students who are tempted to use AI for content rather than grammar – fortunately I have Becky as my editress to police my grammar.
Recently, I came across the Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect in an article by L. Wayne Mathison. The author Michael Crichton came up with the concept and named it after his physicist friend Murray Gell-Mann who developed theories of sub-atomic particle physics, a subject which fascinates me. Relax, I’m not going to detour into the strange realm of quarks upon which the universe is constructed and makes our devices and AI work.
Crichton described “the tendency of individuals to doubt news stories about subjects within their field of expertise yet readily accept the veracity of articles on topics outside their expertise.” I can critique science and medical subjects, but would defer to Dr. Harold Black on economic issues. Since there are few polymaths, we must depend on others to honestly report the truth. And since the media have been proven deceitful, they are finished without a mea culpa but don’t hold your breath.
As a kid, I remember being warned that I should straighten up because Daddy is coming home. Similarly, the unelected deep state bureaucrats who aren’t culled by efficiency czars Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy need to wise up and accede to the electoral mandate of We The People: Trump Daddy is coming home.
