Floyd’s Antique and Estate Sales to host Christmas Open House Saturday

A Powell business will celebrate Small Business Saturday by ushering in the Christmas season this weekend.

Floyd’s Antiques and Estate Sales, which is located at 1900 W. Emory Road, will host a Christmas Open House on Saturday.

The store is owned by Angela Taylor, who will soon celebrate 10 years of antique business with a party in May. Floyd’s Christmas Open House ushers in the holiday season with Santa Claus making an appearance and taking pictures with children from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

“We’ll have Santa and he is the mall Santa at West Town Mall,” said Taylor, who has her auctioneer’s license from Stephenson Auction and Realty in Clinton and her real estate license through Realty Executives.

Taylor has had storefront businesses in various locations throughout Knoxville and East Tennessee and is happy to be in Powell. She has a passion for antiques but she also aspires to help others with their small businesses.

“I want to help people with their small businesses,” Taylor said. “I want them to have the chance to make some money in their retirement.”

She achieves this goal by renting booths for antique collectors to sell their items.

Taylor has deep roots in the Powell Community and she wanted to open a storefront in Powell.

In addition to her duties as owner of Floyd’s Antiques and Estate Sales, Taylor also hosts online auctions on Sundays through Hi-Bid Auctions.

“This is great because it’s online and it’s not in person,” she said.

Floyd’s is home to several booths with various antiques and collectibles. And with the Christmas season looming around the corner, Taylor said that people are interested in vintage Christmas items.

One renter recently set up a booth in the store shortly after her retirement.

Sheila Palmer Fox, who recently retired from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, rents space in the store and she couldn’t be happier.

“This has been a lot of fun,” Fox said. “I’ve only been doing this for about four or five months and I’ve made a little money in my retirement.

“I recently retired from the sheriff’s office and now I go to rummage sales and estate sales.”

Floyd’s Auction and Estate Sales’ store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
