Democrats Embarrass Themselves At Joint Address To Congress

My wife, Vickie, and I had the privilege of attending President Trump’s most recent joint address to Congress.

Vickie and I both lost our first spouses after long marriages – her husband to Lou Gehrig’s Disease and my wife to cancer. Vickie and I have been very happily married for almost three years now.

Before we were married, she was one of the most non-political people I have ever known. Thus, I found her reaction to the events that night especially interesting.

She said she had never seen so many glum, angry people as on the Democratic side in the House chamber.

She just could not believe that the Democrats would not even applaud for a 13-year-old boy who had fought cancer or for naming a wildlife refuge after a little girl who was murdered by two illegal aliens.

Vickie said, “For heaven’s sake, they wouldn’t even applaud for peace,” referring to Trump’s efforts to try to end the war in Ukraine.

In fact, at one point, about the only time the Democrats did applaud was when Trump said, “You want to keep it going for another five years? Pocahontas said ‘Yes,’” referring to the hateful Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who got her job at the Harvard Law School only after she greatly exaggerated her miniscule bit of American Indian heritage.

Last year I wrote in one of my columns about the “lavish party at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington”  that the four biggest defense contractors threw in December of 2022 “in celebration of all the money they would be receiving as long as all the members of Congress (to whom they contribute) could keep this war going.”

One publication headlined its story as “This DC party invite shows all the money made off the Ukraine War.”

Someday hopefully both Democrats and Republicans will realize most wars have been brought about using greatly exaggerated threats by defense contractors and military leaders who wanted more money and power and elected officials who wanted to parade their patriotism and be seen as modern-day Winston Churchills.

With government at all levels, whether in peace or in war, it is simply all about the money. This is why all the suburban cities and counties that circle Washington, D.C., are always among the wealthiest in this country.

The Democrats are clearly the party of the government rather than the party of the people today. And also clearly, those who are the loudest in proclaiming their compassion and tolerance are the most intolerant and least compassionate people around.

Someday, hopefully, liberals and leftists will wake up and realize that the greatest beneficiaries of Big Government are the extremely big businesses that get the very lucrative government contracts and very favorable regulatory rulings.

At least nine new billionaires were created in Big Pharma by the Covid fraud, brought on mostly by the biggest lobbying and public relations campaign in history.

The secondary big beneficiaries of Big Government are the bureaucrats who draw high salaries and pensions and then get even more when they retire and go to work for the companies they helped when in power.

Look at the revolving door at the Pentagon and all the admirals and generals who go to work for defense contractors or as lobbyists.

Medical care before the mid-1960s was less than five percent of our GDP. Then, Medicare and Medicaid came in to “help,” and medical care is now nearly 20 percent of our GDP.

Healthcare, which in earlier years was affordable for almost everyone, now can be afforded only by people like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. These programs have made doctors wealthy while people get the crumbs and are forced to get government help.

Then look at the federal student loan program. Students today are shocked when I tell them tuition was only $90 a quarter when I started at the University of Tennessee in 1965.

The Reader’s Digest a few years ago had an article called “Student Loan Slaves.” Now young people owe more than $1.5 trillion on student loans while university administrators at the big schools are getting rich.

The only way people will really be helped is if Elon Musk and others are successful in drastically downsizing the federal government and getting money and power back to the people.

Most polls showed that two-thirds to three-fourths of viewers liked Mr. Trump’s speech. My non-political wife could not believe the hatred the Democrats showed that night, but almost everyone else – agree with him or not – would have to admit the man sure has guts.
