“You guys got me”

At the end of the Knoxville City Council meeting on April 1, nine people were listed as wanting to take part in the Public Forum that follows each meeting.

Vice-Mayor Tommy Smith moved to allow each of the people to speak for five minutes. Mayor Indya Kincannon called the names, once by one, and no one stepped forward to speak. The mayor was given a second list of speakers and read the names aloud.

The list included names like Bea Minor and Christy Bacon. No one appeared to speak.

“You’ve been April Fooled,” the council members kidded Kincannon.

Mayor Kincannon, with a huge smile during the laughter, looked around at the council and said, “You guys got me.”
