Here are the movies that won awards on the Golden Globe Awards show. Boyhood, Glory, The Theory of Everything, How to Train your Dragon 2, Birdman, Gone Girl, The Imitation Game, and Interstellar.  What in the world were these movies about? As I undertook the chore of learning the story of each movie, I couldn’t help but notice how the movies of today resemble the movies of yesterday.

Boyhood, for instance has as its theme the old refrain of children growing up. Many movies were made with that theme. Beginning when he was a young lad living with his single mother and sister, he progresses to college age with many experiences. His mother remarries and doesn’t realize that the man she married eventually will become abusive and alcoholic.

In The Theory of Everything, Stephen Hawkins, a future physicist in college falls in love with a fellow collegian. He learns that he has  motor neuron disease. Despite of this he begins an ambitious study of time. He and Jan defy terrible odds and break new ground in the fields of science and medicine.  I don’t know why, but this movies reminded me of the movie Love Story.

Gone Girl is a weird movie. The only reason I would see it is because I love Ben Affleck. Reminds me of an Alfred Hitchcock movie.

I love Michael Keaton but Birdman has to be the worst movie he ever made.

Movies today are a lot different from movies of yesteryear which is to be expected as we are living in a different day and age. But I long for the movies that made me visualize the times I was living in, made me capture the spirit of my time, the loves that were lost, the experiences that people had–well, sounds as if I’m describing today’s movies, doesn’t it? I want movies such as The Inn of Sixth Happiness, Love Is A Many-splendored Thing, Splendor In the Grass, To Kill A Mockingbird, well, you get my drift.

I haven’t seen any of these movies showing today so I’m being judgmental, one of my bad traits. Reading the reviews doesn’t pique my interest. I won’t take up any more space listing the rest of these winners but I do hope they keep on making movies. They take us from our daily existence no matter what the subject.

Thought for the day: I have seen enough to know I’ve seen too much.  From the movie, A League of Their Own.
