Motorists entering or leaving the Island Home Park neighborhood, Tennessee School for the Deaf or Island Home Airport must use Fisher Place rather than entering the neighborhood at the pillars. The marked detour uses Island Home Avenue to connect Fisher to South Haven Road.
The 134-unit River’s Edge apartment complex – one-, two- and three-bedroom units in five buildings – is being constructed on Island Home Avenue, near the Maplewood Drive entrance into the Island Home Park neighborhood. New public infrastructure – a newly realigned Island Home Avenue, a public riverwalk and a new public road, Splendid View Circle – accompany the construction of the apartment complex.
A section of Island Home Avenue just west of the neighborhood has been closed to through traffic between Sevier Avenue and Maplewood Drive since late spring. The eastbound detour route around the ongoing construction follows Sevier Avenue to McClung Avenue. It turns left at South Haven Road and continues to Island Home Avenue. The westbound detour uses the same streets in reverse.
This weekend’s Maplewood Drive-Island Home Avenue detour for local traffic will veer off the existing detour route at South Haven Road or Island Home Avenue.
