Of course there are. They are mentioned in the Bible hundreds of times. In the book of Revelations their main purpose was to sit around the throne of God, and make proclamations in loud voices. But, are there angels here on earth? Yes, they are personified as kindly members in the world today. They could be our neighbors, our friends in church, family members, and fellow men far and wide.

We just don’t know they are angels. Sometimes I have my doubts. There is a story I read in a book titled, “All Day, All Night, Angels Watching Over Me.” In this book are numerous stories written by people whose lives are  profoundly touched by their own encounters with these helpers from heaven. I will mention one of them. The story of a little boy who was very ill, possibly on the brink of dying. His mother prayed and prayed, then sang three of his favorite hymns while he lay there in a coma. The next morning when she went to the hospital the doctors informed her that her boy was jumping on his bed, crawling around rearranging his pillows. His mother told him, “I sang our songs and I prayed for angels to be in your room”

“Yeah, I know.” The little boy answered.

“Did you hear me pray?

“No”

“Then how do  you know?”

“I saw the angels.”  His mother thought he was talking gibberish but, as the months went by the little boy never changed his story of the angels who visited him that night in the hospital.

I’m not saying that I don’t believe this little boy’s story is true, I just feel as if there are certain people who are blessed by real angels. Then there are other people who are blessed by angels here on earth. Such as the man who grabs a little child who wandered into the street, almost hit by a car, or the lady who gave her kidney to a stranger who needed one badly. There are many other examples of angelic acts in our world today.

Then there is the angel who came from heaven to help poor George in the movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life.” Well, I don’t know, except that it made a wonderful Christmas story for us  to enjoy.

Here is an Irish blessing to help you through your day:

May God grant you always…

A sunbeam to warm you,

A moonbeam to charm you.

A sheltering Angel so nothing can harm you.

Laughter to cheer you

Faithful friends near you.

And whenever you pray,

Heaven to hear you.
