Shopping is finished, baking is finished, decorating is finished, wrapping is finished, and that great day has arrived and went. Toasts have been raised and scrumptious feasts have been partaken. How the time flew! And what is left? Empty feelings, sorrowful thoughts, perhaps, a feeling of let-down? Don’t be discouraged, good feelings can still abound, kindnesses are still for the asking. Cheerfulness is still in every day if we search. The Christmas season is not the only time to be joyful and glad to be alive.
Let me finish this old year with a lovely poem from my little book titled “My Daily Psalms and Prayers.”
“Now thank we all our God with heart and hand and voices
Who wondrous things has done, in whom this world rejoices;
Who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way
With countless flights of love, and still is ours today.
O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us,
With ever-joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us;
And keeps us still in grace, and guides us when perplexed;
And frees us from all ills in this world and the next.
All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given.
The Son and him who reigns with them in highest heaven;
The one eternal God, whom earth and heaven adore;
For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.”
I don’t know who wrote these thoughtful words but they exemplify my feelings exactly. What a way to end the old year and begin the new. Happy New Year to all!
