Civil War Living History and Reenactment at Historic Ramsey House.
History will come to life 150 years after the Great Conflict between the States at the Historic Ramsey House. This Civil War Living History and Reenactment weekend is presented by the Civil War Reenactors of East Tennessee. Recreation of the “Skirmish on the Holston,” which occurred on Feb. 20th 1864 will be held at 2:00 pm each day by Civil War reenactors. During the skirmish, see the cavalry explode from the woods while under cannon fire and battle the infantry. Visitors may stroll through Union and Confederate encampments experiencing the life of a soldier during the Civil War. Rain or Shine!
Saturday and Sunday Performances in the Visitor Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The President and Generals discuss their perception of the war. General Lee will also be speaking on the 150th anniversary o0f the Battle of Chancellorsville and his role in the battle. General Sherman and minister-abolitionist John G. Fee will discuss the northern view of the war. Mrs. Heneger will describe what her life was like while Gen. Sherman used her home as his headquarter on Nov. 30th 1863.
Saturday at 11:00 a.m. -A Civil War Journey – A Sesquicentennial return to the Civil War period through words and Songs presented by Kay Reynolds and David Laurer.
Sunday 11:00 a.m. -Tennessee Quiltworks, Lelana Stewart will present the fictional character “Hattie” and her struggles during the Civil War.
Battles will be Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
There will be a performance of Civil War period music and Tim Simek, the Dulcimer Champion and activities for children and two displays of the medical practices from the era.
Tours of the Ramsey House will be available for a $5.00 person from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.. A Civil War sutler and food for purchase will be available from vendors.
