Utility work will close lanes of traffic temporarily on South Gay Street and Chapman Highway on Thursday, while Saturday’s Mardi Growl dog parade and festival will mean some downtown road closures and no-parking areas.
Thursday, Feb. 27 – 1-3 a.m.
KUB will close both northbound lanes on a short section of South Gay Street between Clinch Avenue and West Church Avenue as work is completed on the electric distribution system in this area. Both southbound lanes will remain open on this section of South Gay Street; one southbound lane will be used for northbound traffic while work is completed.
Thursday, Feb. 27 – 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
KUB will close the southbound curbside lane on a short section of Chapman Highway between Judith Drive and Locust Hill due to work on the water distribution system in this area. One southbound lane and both northbound lanes will remain open on this section of Chapman Highway while work is completed.
Saturday, March 1 – 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
To accommodate the Mardi Growl event, South Central Street between Union Avenue and Summit Hill Drive will be closed from 7 a.m.-noon; Commerce Street between State Street and Central Street will be closed from 7 a.m.-noon; Market Street between Clinch and Union avenues will be closed from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; Union Avenue between Walnut and Gay streets will be closed from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; and there will be a rolling closure beginning at 11 a.m. from Central Street to Jackson Avenue, from Jackson to Gay Street, from Gay Street to Clinch Avenue, from Clinch to Market Street, and from Market to Union Avenue.
During Mardi Growl, there will also be temporary no-parking zones on Market Street and Union Avenue beginning at 9 a.m. and on Gay Street beginning at 9:30 a.m.
