7th Annual Knox County Beaver Creek Flotilla
The Beaver Creek Kayak Club will launch its 7th Annual Beaver Creek Flotilla, presented by First Bank, on Saturday, May 18 at 9:30 am. This is a community float on the Beaver Creek (Knox County Water Trail) which is a slow-moving shallow creek, perfect for novice and experienced boaters. Our volunteer staff will assist with all needs throughout the day. The Flotilla will start at Powell High School and will take out at Roy Arthur Stormwater Park on Harrell Road downstream in Karns. The float is expected to take approximately three hours from put-in to take-out. Grounds open at 7:00 am, behind the Powell High School at the Powell Landing, for kayak and canoe drop-off.
We are excited to announce that this year’s floatmaster is Jeff Jarnigan. Jeff has served thirty combined seasons as the public address announcer for the University of Tennessee. His years of service over the airwaves have led him to operations manager of Cumulus Media, which includes the flagships of radio, WIVK 107.7, News Talk 98.7, and Sports Animal 99.1.
Refreshments will be provided by multiple vendors at the take-out. Transportation for you and your kayak or canoe will be provided from the take-out back to Powell High School.
A $10 registration donation will guarantee you a spot in the flotilla, transportation, an event tee-shirt, and drink koozie, and an amazing day of floating fun with Knox community friends. Previous flotillas have had 400+ participants of all ages.
Since 2016, Beaver Creek Kayak Club has advocated for the rehabilitation of Beaver Creek (Knox County Water Trail established in 2020). With clean-up performed by Knox County Parks and Recreation Department crews, over 2,100 tons of stream-clogging wood, trash and debris have been removed from Beaver Creek.
There is no alternate date in case of a rain-out.
