Bragg Will Talk About ‘The Best Cook in the World’
A few members of Friends of the Knox County Public Library were so excited about author Rick Bragg’s May 21 visit to Knoxville that they decided to make his momma’s coconut and chocolate pies using the recipes in The Best Cook in the World: Tales from My Momma’s Southern Kitchen. The verdict? Bragg’s momma knows pies.
Home Cookin’ with Rick Bragg will feature one of his momma’s biggest fans talking about The Best Cook in the World on Tuesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. at the Bijou Theatre. Ronni Lundy, the author of Victuals, will join Bragg on stage.
Tickets for the event, which will be hosted by Friends, the Knox County Public Library, and Union Ave Books, are $30 each and can be purchased at knoxbijou.org/events/. The ticket price includes a copy of The Best Cook in the World. Ticket holders will also be eligible to win one of three gift baskets containing Southern goodies.
Part cookbook, part memoir, The Best Cook in the World is Bragg’s loving tribute to the South, his family, and his extraordinary mother, Margaret. A Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, journalist, and author of three best-selling memoirs and numerous other books, he is the recipient of the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance’s 2019 Southern Book Prize for Nonfiction for The Best Cook in the World as well as the organization’s 2019 Conroy Legacy Award.
