BERNARD AVENUE TO CLOSE FOR OVERHEAD BRIDGE WORK

A section of Bernard Avenue/Elm Street between Marion Street and University Avenue – including sidewalks – will be closing for about a year, beginning Monday, Oct. 28.

The closure is to accommodate the replacement of the overhead Interstate 275 bridge by the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The current bridge was built in 1954 and widened in 1984.

When finished, the vertical clearance under the bridge will be increased, and bicycle and pedestrian paths on Bernard Avenue will be improved.

Traffic on Bernard/Elm will be detoured for the next year onto University Avenue, West Fifth Avenue and Marion Street.
