Beverly Park Par 3 Recognized as ‘Public Course of the Year’
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.— A state-wide golf association that represents the turfgrass industry has recognized Knox County’s Beverly Park Par 3 Golf Course as its “Public Course of the Year.”
“Knox County has so many unique things to offer,” said Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs. “Having an award-winning public golf course as part of our park system is just one example of that.”
The Beverly Park Par 3 Golf Course is an 18-hole course made possible by multiple partnerships including the Tennessee Golf Foundation. Now The University of Tennessee, Department of Plant Sciences’ Turfgrass Management Program is utilizing the northeast Knox County course for research and practicum experience by completing greens renovations.
The course features the rolling hills of an old farm, complete with the original barn and silo. It includes a clubhouse, indoor training facility and practice green, and it offers lessons by PGA professionals, clinics, leagues for children, men and women, and tournament play.
“We’ve been successful because of the support from Mayor Jacobs, the University of Tennessee, PGA professionals, and the staff at Three Ridges Golf Course,” said Mark Brown, who oversees the county’s golf course operations. “But at the end of the day, the kids who play here are the big winners.”
Knox County Parks & Recreation operates Three Ridges Golf Course and two Par-3 short courses at Concord Park and Beverly Park. Each offers a variety of programs for all play levels including PGA golf instruction, tournament play, and participation in The First Tee program.
“Golf is a game typically played on private, members-only grounds,” said Knox County Parks & Recreation Senior Director Joe Mack. “Our courses allow us to open the game up to the general public. That’s something we’re proud of.”
Beverly Park Par-3 Golf Course is located at 5311 Beverly Park Circle.
The Tennessee Turfgrass Association represents the turfgrass industry across the state and provides members a platform to network with the entire golfing industry. It also conducts research and education efforts to benefit those working in the industry across the state, as well as to advocate for advancing the turfgrass industry in each of Tennessee’s 95 counties.
