At 1:36 p.m. the Knoxville Fire Department’s Rescue Unit received a call
along with Engine Company #11 for a vehicle into a building. Upon arrival
rescuers found a late model ford explorer deep inside Mac’s Pharmacy (2413
Washington Pike)with two occupants still inside the vehicle. A store
employee and a customer were injured when the SUV jumped the two foot high
brick facade and pushed through the building, not stopping until it reached
the pharmacy counter at the back of the business. Along with the two, a
passenger in the front seat of the ford was also sent to the hospitals with
non life threatening injuries. Considering the incident a few weeks ago
where a vehicle ran through Tomato Head Restaurant, its a miracle there were
no fatal injuries today.
