County may take over waterline project

The Knox County Commission’s agenda for August has more than 58 items. The agenda review on Monday, August 19, will whittle those down to items that will see discussion at the main meeting on the 26th. The agenda items not proceeding to that meeting, including the school board items, will be approved on consent with one vote.
One resolution that may be discussed during the agenda review is an agreement that Knox County will take over the new water line project from the West Knox Utility District for the I-40/75 Business Park.
The commission will also consider moving leftover funds from Fiscal Year 2024 to Fiscal Year 2025 for various funds and departments. The amount of those transfers has yet to be set.
Parks and Recreation is asking for a resolution to create a Youth Sports Advisory Board to promote sportsmanship.
Additional design work on the Halls Greenway Connector may be approved and an unspecified agreement for Right-of-Way Acquisition Services is also on the agenda for that greenway project.
The Community Development Department is asking for the funds to enhance fire and rescue service organizations and in a separate resolution requests funding specifically for the Karns Fire Department, Seymour Volunteer Fire Department and the Knox County Rescue Squad.
Six contracts with local firms are on the agenda for contractor services for the Home Rehabilitation Program as are agreements for block grant funds for various agencies.
The resurfacing of North Cedar Bluff Road from Sherrill Blvd to Middlebrook Pike could involve a contract for state aid with a 2% county match. Improvements along Hardin Valley Road to Brighton Farms Boulevard are before the commission for consideration.
Adam Wilson Realty, Keith Foster, and Carter Lady Hornets and the Gibbs Lady Eagles softball teams are considered for honorary resolutions in August.
The Knox County Health Department has several items on the agenda involving mosquito control, funding of the WIC food program, immunization services, HIV prevention, and hepatitis program services.
