High-Speed Internet Now Available to All Union County KUB Customers
KUB Fiber expedited its Union County buildout with support from local, state government
Knoxville, TN – KUB Fiber is now available to all Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) customers in Union County – a major milestone in the utility provider’s fiber rollout. With support from the State of Tennessee, KUB Fiber was able to expedite its rollout in the area.
KUB received a $6.5 million Tennessee Emergency Broadband Fund grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and $1 million from Union County to bring KUB Fiber service to the county. For some rural customers, KUB Fiber is the first internet provider to offer high-speed fiber internet.
“I’m grateful to our partners in Union County and at the State of Tennessee who helped us bring KUB Fiber to these customers sooner,” Gabriel J. Bolas II, KUB President & CEO said. “These community members not only have a reliable, lightning-fast internet option, but all KUB customers in the area will benefit from electric reliability improvements that fiber technology provides.”
KUB Fiber will also offer free Wi-Fi connectivity in Wilson Park, just east of Union County High School, and the Farmer’s Market, just west of the school. Fast and free internet service will soon be available to anyone visiting these community gathering spots, building on KUB Fiber’s efforts to close the digital divide in areas with underserved and unserved communities.
“For years, I heard from residents that the lack of internet access was increasingly difficult,” said Union County Mayor Jason Bailey. “I was an advocate for KUB Fiber from the beginning, and it’s so exciting that now, all Union County residents served by KUB have access to high-speed internet. I really cannot overstate the impact this will have on our county.”
The completion of KUB Fiber’s Union County rollout comes as the company is halfway through its system-wide buildout. High-speed internet is available to nearly 84,000 residential and business customers across the KUB service area. In 2026, KUB will begin the third and final phase of its fiber network construction.
With a total of $15 million in grant funding to support rural areas, KUB has also completed its fiber buildout in Grainger County with construction planned in Sevier and Jefferson Counties.
