On Saturday, September 26, Kickstand Community Bike Shop will be hosting a bike safety course 12-2 p.m., at 1323 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917 in the shop’s parking lot. The class will be led by League of American Bicyclists Certified Instructor Jay Snyder. Whether you are a new bike rider or experienced, this class can help with your confidence on your bike and with riding more safely. The course is free for children accompanied by an adult and $15 for participating adults. This includes a League of American Cyclist Quick Guide Booklet that outlines all of the information you need to ride safely and confidently as well as:

  • basic bike & helmet fitting
  • the most common types of bicycle crashes and how to avoid them
  • basic traffic laws and rules of the road
  • proper hand signals
  • how to position yourself on the road
  • how to handle busy intersections
  • basic bike-handling drills
  • short road ride in downtown Knoxville.

All participants must wear a helmet, mask, and have a bicycle that is safe to ride. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Register via email kickstandknoxville@gmail.com

 

About Kickstand: Kickstand is an all-volunteer non-profit community bike shop “Where everyone can get a bike and learn to keep it working.” We help bike riders in the community with access to tools and knowledge to maintain bicycles, donations of bikes to individuals and groups who are sponsored by our community partners, teach bike maintenance and repair, make repair stations available throughout the city,  do bike advocacy, and sell bikes to fund our mission of making bike riding available to everyone.
