KUB and TVA announce $264,000 in grants through Community Care Fund

 

Knoxville, TN Knoxville Utilities Board has awarded funds totaling $264,000 to 22 nonprofits in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority through Community Care Fund grants.

 

“These nonprofits help people in the KUB service area by providing resources to support healthcare, education, diversity and inclusion, hunger, housing, and workforce development and training,” said Tiffany Martin, Vice President and Chief Customer Officer at KUB. “As part of our mission to serve the community, we provide funding to key programs to ensure they can continue their missions to help serve East Tennessee.”

 

Both KUB and TVA provided $132,000 each for the grants, which went to the following organizations and programs:

 

  • Special Spaces, Inc.: Funds to provide bedroom makeovers for kids with cancer.
  • Knoxville Dream Center: Funds to assist in increasing nutritious meals for families struggling with food insecurity and increase the engagement of parents with their child’s educators.
  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation – T1D: Funds used for community engagement and outreach.
  • Friends of Literacy, Inc.: Funds used towards program to help improve literacy and health outcomes for at-risk young children.
  • Koinonia Foundation: Funds used to bolster the infrastructure of programs for individuals with disabilities and procure essential supplies necessary to deliver high-quality experiences.
  • Centro Hispano de East Tennessee: Funds used towards community resources map of Knoxville and client assistance.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee: Funds to provide support to older youth who have aged out of other programs.
  • Friends of TN Babies with Special Needs: Funds to provide care packages for premature babies in the NICU at ETCH.
  • Shangri- La Therapeutic Academy of Riding (STAR): Funds used to supplement lessons for the Therapeutic Riding Program.
  • Knoxville Children’s Theatre: Funds used towards scholarships for children to participate in the program.
  • Autism Breakthrough of Knoxville: Funds used towards scholarships for the Social Skills Groups.
  • Remote Area Medical: Funds used towards one clinic day, providing access to free dental, vision, and medical care for the underserved.
  • Metro Drug Coalition: Funds used towards Recovery Housing Support Scholarships, bus passes, and recovery groups.
  • Random Acts of Flowers: Funds used towards delivery of flowers across area hospitals.
  • Friends of the Knox County Public Library: Funds used towards the Children’s Festival of Reading.
  • Knox County Community Gardens and Growers’ Alliance: Funds used towards creating new gardens in East Knoxville to combat food insecurity.
  • Helping Mamas Knoxville: Funds used to purchase car seats and pack n’ plays.
  • 100 Black Men of Knoxville: Funds used towards scholarships and overnight college tours.
  • Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service, Inc. (SCHAS): Funds used to sponsor service hours for in-home caregiving.
  • Bridge Refugee Services: Funds go towards the Refugee Occupancy Opportunity Funding.
  • Fort Sanders Foundation: Funds go towards Katerpillar Kids Camp.
  • Closer Walk Reentry & Advocacy Program, Inc.: Funds go towards program materials for those re-entering the workforce.
