Best Bird Photography Locations in Florida

The LeConte Photographic Society will have a photo program on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the King Family Library in Sevierville, Tennessee.  The speaker will be professional photographer Bob Howdeshell from Knoxville.  Bob will share his knowledge about his favorite locations in the state of Florida for bird photography and the time of the year he prefers to travel to those areas.

In the summer of 2004, our youngest son had just graduated from college and was moving on to give minor-league professional baseball a try.  After many years of following our two sons around as they played high school sports and then college athletics … I needed a hobby!

During the Christmas season of 2004, I purchased my “first ever” camera.   Canon Digital Rebel model and went about deciding what I liked to photograph.  After photographing the winter birds in our backyard, I realized that I really enjoyed the challenge of Bird Photography.

Now almost 20 years later I have become an adequate Bird Photographer, having had many of my photos published and used in print and digital media.  Some photos have garnered acclaim in highly competitive contests.  And while I do not sell any images I do enjoy giving them to friends and family.

As of this date over 100 of my bird photographs have been used in “Audubon, All About Birds” and/or EBird online publications.  My bird images have been used in TWRA, Florida Fish and Wildlife, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission publications.

My bird images have been two time Tennessee State Fair photography competition – “Best In Show” winners.  Five time “Great Backyard Bird Photography Competition… Overall and category 1st place prize winner.

This program is free and open to the public.  If you’d like more information about the photo club, please visit  www.lecontephotographic.com
