Effective today, KUB and its contractor, Charles Blalock and Sons, have closed the entire construction zone limits on a 1.5 mile section of Lyons View Pike to through traffic to coincide with the start of construction on a project to upgrade the natural gas, water, and wastewater mains in the area. The closure of this section of Lyons View Pike will remain in effect for the duration of the project, which KUB anticipates will be completed in November 2013, prior to Thanksgiving. Construction has started on the east end of Lyons View Pike, near the Kingston Pike intersection (see highlighted area on attached map). Due to excavation in the roadway, and the ongoing presence of equipment, only local traffic will be permitted to travel in the construction zone. All local traffic entering and exiting Lyons View Pike must do so from the west end, at the Northshore Drive intersection. As part of the traffic control plan for this project, uniformed officers are stationed around the clock at barricades located at each end of the project. In addition, access onto Lyons View Pike is closed from three side streets – Arrowhead Trail and Colony Way near the east end, and Harley Drive near the west end of the Lyons View Pike. Barricades have been placed where each of these three streets intersect Lyons View Pike. The attached map illustrates the location of these three barricades. Arrowhead Trail and Colony Way will be reopened once construction has been completed on that section of Lyons View Pike. The Harley Drive intersection will remain closed for the duration of the project. Access is maintained for residences, businesses, and emergency vehicles along Lyons View Pike; Arrowhead Trail, Colony Way and Harley will be open to local traffic, but not accessible from Lyons View while construction is underway. This work will be completed as a “rolling” construction zone starting on the east end and moving west in 600-foot to 1,000-foot sections. Construction will take place seven days a week (weather permitting), with extended work hours during seasonal daylight. Traffic control devices and signage have been placed at various locations around the construction zone to alert motorists to this road closure and detour routes. KUB will post regular updates throughout the project on its website at www.kub.org, the KUB Facebook page, and via recorded messages on the dedicated project hotline at 558-2330 (follow-up from a KUB representative by the end of the next business day). Additionally, KUB has set up a blog at lyonsviewpikeproject.blogspot.com to keep customers informed about project milestones
